Chinese Government Condemns US of ‘Hypocritical Policies’ Over Tariff Threat

Donald Trump’s newest ultimatum to enforce an further complete levy on items imported from China has been described as a “prime illustration” of American hypocrisy, according to the Beijing administration.

A Commerce Ministry spokesperson also stated that Beijing could implement its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the US President executes his warning, adding that the country was “fearless” of a looming trade conflict.

Last Friday, Trump responded at the Chinese government’s action to strengthen its regulations for foreign shipments of critical elements, charging the Chinese leadership of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the global community “hostage”.

Additionally, he threatened to pull out of a scheduled meeting with China’s President Xi, which was expected to take place during a meeting in South Korea before the month ends.

The former president’s remarks on last Friday shook financial markets, with the S&P 500 dropping 2.7%, marking its steepest fall since April.

His comments reignited concerns of a commercial dispute between the US and China.

In May, the both nations had consented to eliminate high import duties on each other’s goods, which had created the possibility of commerce ceasing between the two nations.

This left, United States levies on Chinese goods incurring an additional thirty percent tariff compared with the beginning of 2025, while American products entering China are subject to a import levy.

Beijing’s recent statements – released by the Ministry of Commerce in the manner of written responses to press queries – reflected terminology from the peak of the ongoing trade dispute.

The remarks condemned US export restrictions on semiconductors and chips while justifying the country’s own restrictions on exports on rare earths as “standard procedures” to protect domestic safety and that of all nations.

The spokesperson said that for “a long time”, the America had “broadened the definition” of national security, misused overseas sale restrictions and “enforced” biased policies against Beijing.

“Using” tariff threats is not the proper method to deal with Beijing,” the spokesperson stated.

“Beijing’s stance” on a trade conflict has remained unchanging: we are not seeking one, but we are fearless of one.”

Recently, China revealed it was tightening overseas sale regulations on rare earth minerals and other materials vital for advanced tech manufacturing.

The action was viewed as a significant step, as the country refines about ninety percent of the global rare earth supply, which are employed in items such as photovoltaic modules and handheld devices.

Latest statements from the US and China are being viewed by observers as a method of enhancing bargaining power ahead of upcoming negotiations.
