Cruise Halted After Tragic Loss of Female Passenger Left Behind on Island

One 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but broke off from the party for a rest. The ship left without her and came back later that day after the personnel discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission located her person the next day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, together with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" banning any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

The offspring of the victim said that her family was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled tour without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking club.

"From the little information we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of care and basic judgment," she stated.
